  • Comments Off on Mother’s Fight: Cancer, Displacement, and Hope in Gaza

My name is Karim. I live in Gaza with my mother, Ataf, and the rest of our family. Not long ago, we had a home in the Brazil neighborhood of Rafah—walls that protected us, a small routine, a sense of safety. Today, that home is gone. It was destroyed, and since then we’ve been forced to move again and again, carrying what we can, searching for a place that doesn’t exist anymore: a safe place.

But the hardest part of our story is my mother.

My mother is bravely fighting cancer. Even in peaceful times, this illness is terrifying. In Gaza, under displacement and shortage, it becomes unbearable. She needs special care, medical supplies, and even proper clothing to protect her body and keep her warm. And yet, we can’t provide what she needs.

Some days, we wait for hours in long lines just to receive food. When we finally get something, it is often unhealthy and unsuitable for her condition—food that her body cannot handle, food that does not help her heal. Watching her grow weaker while being unable to comfort her is a pain I can’t describe.

We also lost our shelter.

After our home was destroyed, we were left exposed to the open air. Winter is approaching, and the cold is already beginning to creep in. We urgently need a tent—not as a luxury, but as protection, as the simplest form of safety for my mother and our family. With winter comes extra needs: blankets, warm clothing, and basic essentials we no longer have.

During our displacement, we also lost our cooking utensils. It may sound like a small thing, but without pots and basic tools, even preparing a simple meal becomes a struggle. Hunger becomes harder when you can’t even cook what little you find.

We have lost more than a house. We have lost stability, privacy, dignity—and the feeling that tomorrow will be better.

This campaign has become our only hope. It is the one door still open when so many have closed.

If you can help, your support will go toward:

  • Medical supplies and basic care for my mother’s cancer treatment

  • A tent and winter essentials to protect her from the cold

  • Cooking pots and tools so we can prepare food and survive day by day

Even the smallest donation can make a real difference. It can bring warmth to my mother, comfort to our family, and a little relief in the darkest time we have ever known.

From my heart—thank you for standing with us. Your kindness can help my mother feel cared for, and help my family live with dignity again.
